China continues measures to tackle air and water pollution

China decided to continue measures adopted to tackle air pollution in Beijing on the eve of the Olympic Games to address environmental challenges despite recent improvement in its air quality. According to Du Shaozhong, Deputy Director of the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau, the treatment of heavy polluting vehicles and in some cases their removal will be accelerated. Authorities have plans to reduce dust from construction site to curb air pollution.

Hamilton water safe to drink

Hamilton’s water supply is now safe to drink; the state Department of Environmental Protection notified town officials yesterday that all tests for perchlorate from Aug. 28 through Sept. 2 indicate no detectable levels of the chemical.

Kemira says to buy water treatment chemicals business in China

Finnish chemicals group Kemira said in a statement Wednesday it would buy Zibo Huaqing Water Purifying Products for an undisclosed sum.

The company, based in Shandong province in China, employs about 50 people. Its main product is polyaluminium chloride in both liquid and solid form.

Kemira added that it had plans to expand Zibo Huaqing's current annual capacities of 20,000 tonnes of solid and 30,000 tonnes of liquid polyaluminium chloride.

inge watertechnologies AG, a global supplier of ultrafiltration technology in water treatment, has secured another major contract in China. inge watertechnologies had already outfitted Beijing International Airport with its proprietary patented ultrafiltration technology for waste water treatment in time for the start of the Olympic Games. Now the company has successfully entered the fast-growing market for process water treatment in Chinese nuclear power plants. inge watertechnologies will equip the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant with ultrafiltration modules. The plant is currently under construction in the Liaoning province about 100 km from the port of Dalian.
